Britannia Lanes – Self-Storage & Operations Facility
Location: Exeter
Status: Completed 2017
Client: Britannia Lanes
MBA Consulting provided structural engineering services for the new Britannia Lanes facility, a purpose-built development designed to serve as a local landmark and significantly enhance brand visibility. The facility replaced an outdated and constrained site, and now accommodates the company’s expanding self-storage operations, container capacity, and administrative offices.
The structural solution centred on a robust steel frame capable of supporting large, high-bay racking with tight tolerance requirements and heavy loads. Due to the building’s height and the significant bracing forces involved, tension piles were incorporated to resist uplift forces, working in conjunction with traditional foundations.
MBA Consulting worked closely with the wider project team to ensure full coordination across disciplines and provided support throughout construction to respond to site queries and ensure structural compliance.
