The site was redeveloped with the demolition of the existing single-storey oak-framed house, allowing for a significant increase in the building’s footprint. The original concrete plinth was retained and strengthened to support the new structure by directing loads to suitable substructure locations.

A lightweight steel frame was used to accommodate open-plan spaces while reducing the overall load on the existing foundation and limiting the need for new substructure work.

A separate garage was constructed, cut into the slope of the site. This required the installation of new retaining walls to support the surrounding ground.

The project posed several challenges due to the steep site levels and restricted access.
