Fort Bovisand Regeneration
Location: Plymouth
Status: On Site
Client: Fort Bovisand Developments Ltd and The Fort Bovisand Trust
Contract Sum: £14m
This is a unique project that MBA have been involved with for around six years following a long period of approvals required for the development.
Fort Bovisand was originally built in the mid 19th century to keep watch over the UK’s southern shores and retains significant historic importance as a Palmerston Fort which formed part of a much wider programme of coastal defences across Britain.
The site has undergone many changes over the years including use during World War II for defensive purposes and more recently as a dive centre.
The project is due for complete regeneration with most of the existing structures due for refurbishment with essential structural repairs to ensure they are maintained for the generations to come.
The existing structures are listed as Scheduled Monuments requiring consent from Historic England which imposes restrictions on many of the specifications for the structural repair work.
MBA have been working hard over the past few years together with the design team and client to prepare the structural and civil engineering designs for this fantastic project.
Works started on site in 2020 with essential cliff stabilisation which will shortly be followed by a phased approach for the development.
