BP HQ Feature Staircase

MBA were commissioned with the structural design of this highly unique staircase which forms the main entrance feature for the new BP International Headquarters in London.

MBA carried out detailed calculations and drawings to define the concrete sections and reinforcing bar requirements. High strength pre-cast concrete elements were combined with in-situ concrete stitches to accommodate the complex nature of the design.

The structural input required close liaison with the pre-cast concrete manufacturer to ensure the design was compatible with the intended manufacturing process, as well as ensuring the overall appearance satisfied the architectural and client led requirements.

MBA continued to work closely with the local pre-cast concrete supplier throughout the manufacturing process to check the arrangement of the reinforcement bars complied with the design and to assist with ongoing queries.
