Chris Owen

Chris has over 35 years’ experience in the delivery of structural engineering services. He has been with MBA since 1994 becoming a partner in 1995.

Chris has a wealth of knowledge in the construction industry having been involved in many of the major projects throughout Devon and Cornwall for a variety of public and private sector Clients.

He has particular experience in the preliminary and detailed design of structures, the appraisal of existing buildings and development of challenging sites.

As a senior Director, Chris is responsible for the delivery of Structural Engineering Services for MBA.

Chris is a Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers and a Chartered Engineer Registered with the Engineering Council.

Director

Mark Powell

Mark began his professional career with MBA in 2003. He became a director in 2017.

Day to day Mark manages the civil engineering office, working closely with project design teams on delivery of information to clients.

Mark has many years’ experience in providing new infrastructure on projects within the residential, industrial, commercial, educational and health care sectors. This often involves working with local authorities and statutory service undertakers on the adoption of new roads and services.

Director

David Stanforth

David has almost 20 years experience as a structural engineer and became a director at MBA in 2017.

As a Director, David is responsible for managing many of the structural engineering projects in the office. He has experience in a wide range of projects within the residential, industrial, commercial, educational and health care sectors. He has particular experience working on historic structures which often requires a sympathetic approach to the sensitive nature of the buildings having worked on many grade listed and scheduled ancient monument structures.

David carries out many of the structural inspections in the practice, identifying structural defects and specifying appropriate remedial measures, whether the structures are formed in concrete, timber, masonry or steelwork.

David has a bachelor's degree in engineering from Coventry University. He is a Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers and a Chartered Engineer registered with the Engineering Council.

Director

Matt Humphrey

Matt became a director in 2017 demonstrating his competence in the construction industry and his experience in the delivery of structural engineering services.

Matt is skilled at managing the design process for structural schemes, as well as preliminary and detailed designs of structures in reinforced concrete, steel, masonry and timber to conform to the current codes of practice.

Matt has a first-class masters honours degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Exeter. He is a Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers and a Chartered Engineer registered with the Engineering Council.

In his spare time Matt enjoys mountain biking and exploring new areas to ride around Cornwall.

Principal Structural Technician

Shaun Truscott

Shaun has over 15 years’ experience in the production of high-quality structural engineering drawings having worked with several engineering consultancies before joining MBA in 2009.

Shaun is a Technician Member with the Institution of Structural Engineers which recognises an engineering technician’s competence, who is ambitious, enthusiastic and passionate about structural engineering.

Shaun has extensive technical knowledge in structural detailing where coordination with the design team is key. Shaun has a very keen eye for detail and takes enormous pride in his work which reflects in the quality of his drawings.

Principal Structural Engineer

Stefan Piasecki

Stefan joined MBA in 2021 with over 15 years’ extensive buildings knowledge. He has considerable experience working on high quality structures projects across all the major work sectors ranging from large, complex phased master-planned developments, to single private residences that often require bespoke and sensitive engineering solutions.

Stefan is fully conversant with the design of structures in all materials. He adopts a hands-on approach to all his projects and enjoys collaborating with architects and contractors.

Stefan has a masters degree in Structural Engineering and Architecture which he completed at the University of Sheffield.

Away from the office Stefan enjoys exploring the Coastal Path with his dogs.

Principal Structural Technician

Derek Fieldhouse

Derek joined MBA in 2006 bringing a wealth of construction knowledge with him having worked for many years in the north east on large infrastructure projects before settling down in Cornwall.

Derek is primarily responsible for the production of reinforced concrete drawings which is a specialist field of drawing work requiring a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

In his spare time, Derek likes to go sea fishing, playing golf and going on holiday!

Senior Structural Engineer

George Murphy

George joined MBA in 2017 having graduated from the University of Plymouth with a degree in Civil and Coastal Engineering. George has adapted quickly into the industry and has become competent in the analysis and design of structures in steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber, from initial scheme conception through to final detailed design.

George is a dedicated and hardworking individual who is keen to expand his knowledge within the construction industry and hopes to achieve his goal of gaining chartership status within structural engineering.

Senior Structural Technician

Richard Paine

Rick is one of our senior structural technician’s with over 20 years experience in the construction industry and has an HNC in Civil Engineering.

Rick is experienced with managing and delivering high quality structural engineering drawings using 2D AutoCad and 3D Structural Revit. Rick is responsible for the development of the drawing standards and mentoring the junior technicians.

During his career, Rick is used to liaising with Contractors, Architects, Services and Site Engineers and checking works on site.

Outside of work Rick enjoys camping, sea swimming and Volkswagens!

Senior Structural Technician

Andrew Ashman

Andrew joined MBA in 2022 bringing a wealth of knowledge with him having over 30 years within the construction industry.

Andrew has worked on a vast array of projects across Cornwall from bespoke new dwellings to multi-million pound commercial developments.

Andrew is responsible for providing detailed 2D structural drawings to ensure these are in line with the engineering proposals and that they are fully coordinated with the wider project team requirements. Andrew is also adept at the production of reinforced concrete and steelwork drawings for a variety of building types.

Andrew has a ONC and HNC in Building Studies from Cornwall College.

Outside of work, Andrew enjoys riding his motorbike and exploring new places to visit!

Civil Engineer

Sam Hatton

Sam joined MBA in 2019 having graduated from the University of Plymouth with a degree in Civil Engineering.

During his time at MBA, Sam has been responsible for the design of civil engineering projects.

Sam has continued to develop his skills in the use of software such as Autodesk Civil 3D and Microdrainage to provide detailed designs for many of the civils projects.

Graduate Civil Engineer

Ethan O'Reilly

Ethan joined MBA in 2021 and forms an integral part of the Civil Engineering team. He graduated from the University of the West of England in 2020 with a BEng (hons) degree in Aerospace Engineering. Ethan has been able to use his skills learnt at university and apply these to the skills required for a Civil Engineer.

During his time at MBA, Ethan has been undertaking Section 104 Agreements to allow newly connected sewers and pumping stations to be adopted by the local sewage authority.

Ethan has been using Civils 3D to produce road and ground models and drainage designs on a number of new housing developments across Cornwall.

In his spare time, Ethan likes to go rock climbing and takes satisfaction in carefully planning and inspecting the routes before reaching the top of each climb!

Structural Technician

Taylor Inglefield

Taylor joined MBA in 2020 having completed a two-year BTEC in Engineering at a local college.

Taylor has always been fascinated by the construction and design process of buildings and has adapted well to the industry.

Taylor has become proficient in the use of 3D Autodesk Structural Revit which produces high quality 3D building models. This has the added benefit of being able to exchange the building models with the other professions in the design team and allows early coordination of the model throughout the design stages.

Outside of work, Taylor enjoys playing football and going to the gym.

Structural Engineer

James D'Ambrosio

James joined MBA in 2024 and forms part of our structural engineering team. He has 3 years experience previously working with both London and Cornwall based consultants.

He is passionate about working with existing and historic buildings, and has a very keen interest in sustainable engineering.

James has a Masters of Engineering in Structural Engineering with Architecture which he completed at University College Dublin and is a Graduate Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers.

Outside of work, James enjoys walking and travelling.

Graduate Civil Engineer

Marcus Fylan-Smith

Marcus joined MBA in 2023 and forms part of our Civil Engineering team. He has a BEng (hons) degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Manchester and has enjoyed being back in Cornwall since graduating.

Marcus is now keen to develop his engineering skills and gain more experience within the industry.

Outside of work Marcus is a keen surfer and snowboarder and enjoys trips away exploring new places to hone his skills.

Graduate Structural Engineer

Thomas Richards

Thomas joined MBA in 2023 having graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in Civil and Structural Engineering.

Since joining MBA, Thomas has been assisting our senior engineers and working alongside our drawing technicians to develop structural designs in several exciting new projects.

Thomas is a highly motivated member of the team and is keen to progress his professional development as a structural engineer with MBA.

In his spare time Tom enjoys surfing and going to the gym.

Trainee Technician

Dylan Tamblyn

Dylan joined MBA in 2023 as a Trainee Technician following completion of a General Engineering Course at St Austell College and later enrolling on a City & Guilds Computer Aided Design (Solidworks) course at Truro and Penwith College.

Since his employment at MBA, Dylan has been developing his 3D Revit modelling skills and assisting the senior technicians to develop high quality drawings for some interesting local projects.

In his spare time Dylan likes to go to the gym, go fishing and ride his motorbike.

Graduate Structural Engineer

Rhys Powell

Rhys joined MBA in 2022 and has a BSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Plymouth.

Rhys is keen to progress his career within the industry and is passionate about learning new skills in civil and structural engineering.

In his spare time, Rhys is enjoys learning about history and politics and also enjoys riding his motorbike at weekends!

Office Administrator and Accounts

Noora Stanforth

Noora joined MBA in 2022 and oversees the administrative and accounting duties within the business. Noora originally started her career as a Travel Consultant organising tailormade holidays for a wide range of clients. She has also worked in various administrative roles for a student accommodation company.

Noora works hard behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of the office and keeps everyone organised!

Outside of work, Noora enjoys sea swimming and coastal walks with her family and Black Labrador.
